Pupils and teachers at 新澳门六合彩投注 are continually involved in charity fundraising. A charity committee consisting of Sixth Formers takes听the lead supported by staff and younger pupils.

The purpose of the committee is to formalise and extend the variety of charity events that we organise (e.g. non-uniform days, Talent Show, Macmillan Coffee Morning).

Our pupils come from all over the world, many from privileged backgrounds, and we believe that it is right for them to have an understanding of, and compassion for, those less fortunate than themselves. Importantly we think it will benefit them to have made a contribution, at whatever level, to help improve the lives of others. It is part of our philosophy of trying to ensure that each pupil leaves us as a well-rounded individual who has, to the best of our ability, received an education that will help to prepare them for their future lives.

Fundraising events are often the perfect opportunity for our pupils to take control and develop their personal qualities. Leadership, creativity, teamwork, working to deadlines are all important ingredients for successful fundraising events.

The focus of our fundraising 2020/21 is to support our overseas partnerships in Tanzania with ‘Lerang’ wa lunches’ and our chosen charity .

CHARITY 鈥� Review of Activity in 2019/20

 

Amongst the unexpected events of the 2019/20 academic year, the 新澳门六合彩投注 community carried out a wide array of fundraising events raising in excess of 拢25,000.

The Sixth Form Charity Committee decided that we should support the Brain Tumour charity in memory of a member of their year group who we sadly lost to the disease.听 The Lower School Christmas Fair, a mufti day and the ever popular charity Talent Show went ahead as ever before the national lockdown, and we were able to raise over 拢6000 for the Brain Tumour Charity whilst supporting our partners in Tanzania with our Lerang鈥檞a Lunches project, including the development of their horticultural garden.

We supported MacMillan Cancer Charity with a coffee morning, the 新澳门六合彩投注 Foodbank at Harvest Festival and the Poppy appeal 鈥� all in the autumn term.

Once lockdown had begun the charity work stepped up.听 Notable efforts included donations through the weekly English department quiz that exceeded 拢7000! The funds were donated to SASH, the charity for East Surrey Hospital and the care and services.

Mr Crombie said 鈥淥n the 18^th听April we decided to make it a 鈥楧ress for the NHS鈥� quiz 鈥� encouraging families to put on a costume, or to dress fancily, whilst making a donation to SASH Charity, our local NHS Trust. We are so proud to give this money to such an amazing cause at a hugely challenging time.鈥�

The Sports Department had students running, walking and cycling the 10,975km that would be needed to reach Tanzania.听 This KMs for St Catherine鈥檚 event raised money for St Catherine鈥檚 Hospice.

A group of our boarders raised money and procured 10,000 pieces of PPE for the North Tandridge Primary Care Network. A fantastic example of initiative and leadership for a good cause.

Many of our staff and pupils took it upon themselves to support charitable causes in the lockdown. For example Josh (Fifth听驰别补谤)听completed听补听迟辞耻驳丑听100 mile听challenge听over half term to help raise funds for a local听4 year old听boy,听requiring specialist cancer treatment听in the US.听听Josh raised over 拢3,000 through his efforts.

BA Flying Start Donation听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 听 Talent Show 2019

 

A strong Charity Committee of U6 students lead the school community to raise over 拢20,000.听 Events included the annual Macmillan Coffee morning and Harvest Festival collections organised by the Charity Committee and the Poppy Day appeal.听 The Sports Department decided to support the Oddballs cancer charity by designing and selling tasteful and warm 新澳门六合彩投注 Oddballs hats.

Our nominated domestic charity was DKMS 鈥� deleting blood cancer 鈥� a cause that has been very close to the school community in recent years.听 Fundraising was complemented by a donor registration event for parents and the sixth form.听 We donated a total of 拢7,872 to DKMS across the year.

School fundraising also supported Lerang鈥檞a Lunches and our ongoing commitment to our partner school in Tanzania. This 12-year relationship has seen us funding infrastructure improvements at the school, and more recently supporting the diets within the vulnerable, largely Masai community. We are will be investing in a garden at the school, for the pupils to learn horticulture and to supplement the diets of the pupils.听听 We also support the 100 or so pupils without families with their state health insurance. We provided meals for every pupil every school day, and each child with a bowl and a cup for hygienic eating. This continues to maintain and improve levels of enrolment, attendance and educational attainment.

The fundraising by the charity teams introduced many innovative events from Christmas jumpers, to running up and down Waller Lane, to mocktails at break, to donut sales.听 The annual Talent Show and the Lower School Fayre 鈥� both student run events 鈥� were the biggest fundraisers accounting for over 拢5000 between them.

Two teams of six Forth years entered the 鈥楴atWest 5-0 challenge this year.听 They were given 拢50 seed money to raise as much as they could for St Catherine鈥檚 Hospice.听 Between them they raised over 拢1300 and one team won a prize for innovation for their 鈥榩hone stand鈥� product. The boarders went carol singing to raise money for the same cause.

The Charity Committee launched a house competition to collect foreign money left over from trips abroad, and were able to donate 拢875 to the BA Flying Start charity.

Members of the CCF complemented their poppy sales by getting sponsorship for a parachute jump to a total of over 拢1200 which they donated to the Royal British Legion.

Collections at music department events raised over 拢1000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The Sixth form provided the bulk of the labour for the 新澳门六合彩投注 area Rotary club collections which raised over 拢6000 for a variety of causes including DKMS.

CHARITY 鈥� Review of Activity in 2017/18

The school community got behind many charity events including the Macmillan Coffee morning organised by the Charity Committee and the Poppy Day appeal manned by the CCF with the addition of a Silent Soldier to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of Armistice Day. 2RO continued with their sponsorship of a child in Tanzania through World Vision, and the Boarders of Beechanger decided to sponsor the education of a young girl at the School in Upper Mustang, Nepal.听 The Sports Department organised an ‘odd socks’ day and raised 拢500 for the Wooden Spoon Charity.

The Charity Committee nominated the Shooting Star Chase as our school charity. The Children鈥檚 Hospice has always been close to our school community and we have hosted their sponsored Santa鈥檚 Run for several years. The whole school got behind the cause after inspirational assemblies from Shooting Star outlining their amazing work, for the first time the charity logo appeared on the 1^st XV rugby shirts.听 The Charity Committee were determined to reach new heights with fundraising and records were set with 拢3,200 being made at the Talent Show, and the 1^st and 2^nd years making 拢1,555 at their Christmas Fair.听 The music department also made sizeable contributions with collections at major concerts.听 The Committee was please to hand over 拢6,213 to Shooting Star Chase at the end of the year.

This 12-year relationship has seen us funding infrastructure improvements at the school, and more recently supporting the diets within the vulnerable, largely Masai community. This year the 鈥楾anzania Team鈥� comprising the expedition members raised over 拢4,000 directly for this and so the school community was able to donate 拢6,000 in total.

We provided meals for every pupil every school day, and each child with a bowl and a cup for hygienic eating. This continues to maintain and improve levels of enrolment, attendance and educational attainment.

Alongside this, the library raised 拢368 for the RAF Benevolent fund, 拢111 to Mind by the Art Department, 拢405 to the Yellowmen following MADlive, 拢202 from the boarders carol singing and the boarders sent off 25 Christmas shoeboxes via Samaritan鈥檚 Purse UK. The Morocco team raised just over 拢300, most notably through an ambitious five a side tournament, to buy materials to improve the community education centre in Ikhf n lghir, in the Bougumez Valley, where they taught in the summer.

Total funds raised by the student body amounted to over 拢15,000. Additionally 新澳门六合彩投注 students were instrumental in assisting the Rotary club collect over 拢4000 in their Christmas collection.

 

CHARITY 鈥� Review of Activity in 2016/17

Charity Talent Show

 

A wide array of fundraising activities took place, from the MacMillan Coffee Morning, to the Poppy appeal. The U6 Charity Committee and the Lerang鈥� wa team were particularly active with events including the Charity Talent Show and an innovative Wine Tasting evening.听 Charity Reps from each form group helped collect funds through our mufti days.听 There were too many events to mention individually, but special mention must go to the 4^th Year who collectively ran a marathon for the Brain Tumour Charity and 1RO who took it upon themselves to sponsor a child in Tanzania through World Vision.

The Charity Committee decided to focus their attention on as a local charity this year. Delight is a charity dedicated to using books and immersive arts to improve engagement and learning. They work in partnership with Surrey Primary Schools where their work will have the greatest impact.听 Many of our students volunteered for Delight, meeting weekly to plan events and organise resources. Last year Delight rehomed over 8,000 books, and delivered carefully constructed programmes in collaboration with the Guildford Shakespeare Company and the Watts Gallery.

School fundraising also supported Lerang鈥� wa Lunches and our ongoing commitment to our partner school in Tanzania. This 11-year relationship has seen us funding infrastructure improvements at the school, and more recently supporting the diets within the vulnerable, largely Masai community.

Last year we were able to provide meals for every pupil every school day, and enhance the food storage facilities at the school. This has led to measurable improvements in enrolment, attendance rates and educational attainment.

The school community responded to events with considerable donations made to Red Cross and Save the Children Syria appeals, and a collection being made for the Victims of the Grenfell Fire.

Significant donations were made for charities with direct links to the school community including the Royal Brompton, The Brain Tumour Charity and the Starlight Foundation.

Collections were also made focussing on raising awareness for Mind, The Breck Foundation and Daniel Spargo. The Borders Carol Singing in 新澳门六合彩投注 raised funds for St Catherine鈥檚 hospice.听 A contribution was made towards the 鈥楶urple Maze鈥� (Rotary against Polio) in Queen鈥檚 Park.听 The second year conducted an Easter Egg Appeal for children in paediatric wards, centred on the Royal Marsden.

Total funds raised by the student body amounted to over 拢20,000. Additionally 新澳门六合彩投注 students were instrumental in assisting the Rotary club collect over 拢4000 in their Christmas collection, as reported by our pupils in their BBC .

 

CHARITY 鈥� Review of Activity in 2015/16

The Upper Sixth Charity Committee were assisted during this听year by a 鈥榗harity rep鈥� from each form group to help with the administration of mufti days and other fundraising events. In 2015/16 we supported the MS therapy Centre in Coulsdon, and were able to donate 拢8000, the equivalent of one month 鈥榦ne to one鈥� physio-therapy for all 162 members of the centre. The MS centre is funded solely through donations.

Funds raised are also allocated to our longer term partnerships overseas: Casa Xalteva Educational Shelter in Nicaragua, Lerang鈥檞a Primary School in Tanzania and the Betania Housing Project in Romania.

Funds raised at 新澳门六合彩投注 have been used to provide a meal for every pupil at Lerang鈥檞a School on every school day, and basic medicines for those pupils without parents. This has led to a remarkable improvement in attendance and focus at the school, and so to improved educational outcomes.

Special donations were also made in response to short term need. This year donations were made to the Save the Children – Syria Appeal and to provide Christmas boxes for children at Morton Academy in Carlisle who were flooded out of their homes and school.

The main fundraising events include the mufti days carried out each term, the lower school Christmas Fayre, and the Charity Talent show in January, which is entirely organised by the students on the Charity Committee. There have been a large number of fundraising events this year, including the Tanzania team鈥檚 spectacular race night, car washes, refreshment sales at school events and Miss Cox鈥檚 charity trip to Thorpe Park.

The intention is to raise awareness amongst pupils, parents, teachers, non-tutorial staff, Old 新澳门六合彩投注ians鈥� and members of the United Reformed Church 鈥� in the hope that support and contributions can come from all these groups.
